A background check can be completed for free on an individual by analyzing their criminal history, credit history, social media activity, education, employment history, personal references, and personal history.
However, while performing a background check at no cost can seem attractive, a professional will be needed to perform a background check correctly and thoroughly.
Furthermore, a professional can document a background check correctly for use in litigation or to be easily disseminated. To be documented correctly, background search evidence will have to be corroborated and display how the information gained fits together.
This is just one of multiple services a Professional Investigator offers.
As mentioned before, working a background check will deal with discovering or verifying past facts regarding an individual or sometimes an organization. However, background checks are often conducted on individuals, for many reasons. The amount of time a background check takes will depend on how thoroughly the background check is. Background checks often happen at an office and utilize the internet in-conjunction with multiple telephone calls.
Background Check Directories
A big part of performing a background search will involve researching an individual’s history utilizing databases:
An Investigator typically uses a paid government database to access information regarding criminal history. However, just simply discovering court records is usually a service that many government jurisdictions offer for free. So if someone hopes to perform a free criminal record check, finding court records is often as far as they can go.
Typically, an Investigator will lookup an individual’s court record for free and resort to paying for a criminal record check if court records are found. To research criminal history for free, a person will have to resort to using Google as an investigative tool in conjunction with the court records found for free.
However, important information located in paid criminal record databases can go undiscovered if someone just wishes to go the free route. Unlike searching for court records, a credit history check will often not be free. It will usually require the Investigator to pay for accessing the database that holds financial history records.
Free Background Check Resources
When conducting background research on an individual, an Investigator will often perform a fair amount of phone calls. Obviously, performing phone calls can be accomplished at no cost.
Researching an individual via phone calls happens often when verifying educational degrees or researching an individual's personal history. Often, the Investigator will contact the educational institute via phone and validate the degree with the school's records department.
However, some universities and colleges protect these records. In this case, the Investigator will have to contact the individual who is the subject of the background check and get them to contact the post-secondary institution themselves in order to access this information. The individual will then be asked to request an educational transcript from the school and get the school to mail it to an address of the Investigator's choosing.
This will mitigate tampering of the records document.
As with education, researching references will also require phone calls. This can also be done for free. The Investigator will have to validate that the references are who they say they are and contact them in order to hear their opinions on the subject of the check.
Free Google Background Check
Lastly, and often the largest part of a background check, the Investigator will utilize the internet as an investigative tool to research the subject's personal history.
As with phone call research, investigating via Google can also be accomplished for free. Obviously, searching free to use social media platforms will be an important part of this background check process.
However, a lot of information can be found on an individual outside of social media, also free. There could be many mentions of the individual on various websites.
However, as mentioned at the start of this article, a professional Investigator should always be used for a correctly performed background investigation.
Many people have a rudimentary grasp on searching the internet. A person could find a few pieces of information when searching on the internet for free. However, a skilled Investigator will be able to find all relevant information and be able to accurately verify and document it properly.
This is why, even with a simple background research task, an experienced and skilled Investigator should always be utilized. The free route will often be an incorrect route.
